Introduction
The Design Build of Kombolcha Airport Airfield Expansion & Security Fence Construction Project is critical infrastructure development initiative aimed at enhancing the Kombolcha Airport’s capacity and security. This project, initiated by Ethiopian Airlines Group, will include both the expansion of the airfield and the construction of a modern security fence around the
airport’s perimeter.
The goal of this project is to support the growing demand for air travel, increase operational efficiency, and ensure the safety and security of the airport premises. By expanding the airfield, it will allow for more aircraft movements, improving the airport’s service capacity, while the security fence will provide enhanced perimeter protection for both the airfield and the surrounding areas.
Key activities include:
- Airfield Expansion: Extensionof runways, taxiways, and aircraft parking spaces.
- Pavement Works: Construction of new, durable, and high-performance runway and taxiway surfaces.
- Lighting and Markings: Installation of advanced airfield lighting and runway markings.
- Security Fence Construction: Full perimeter fence installation with advanced surveillance systems and security checkpoints.
Upon completion, the Kombolcha Airport will be able to accommodate increasing air traffic and offer a higher level of operational security, supporting both domestic and international flights, and strengthening the economic development of the region.
Project Objectives:
- Expand airfield capacity for increased air craft movements
- Ensure high-level security with modern perimeter-fencing
- Improve air traffic efficiency and safety
- Foster regional economic growth through improved air transport infrastructure
